alan del rio ortiz is a director working in commercial advertising, documentary, music videos, film, and broadcast media. he is currently available for freelance work with production studios, agencies, and direct to client projects.


alan began working as an editor for vitamin pictures, helping the company establish itself and grow throughout its infancy. during those years, alan worked closely with kathy hurley, ryan dunn, and vincent haycock to develop content for major clients including nike, mcdonalds, quaker, budweiser, microsoft, and infiniti.


in 2008, he directed a short documentary commissioned as part of splitpillow’s decade-long “chicago 360” project.

the film chronicles the work ethic of a charming, aging man as he makes his living selling peanuts on the side of the road. the short was well received and pushed alan to experiment with documentary work more fully. this momentum led him create exclusive video content for online publications like stop smiling magazine and vbs.


most recently, alan was commissioned to document a month-long tour with the musician and recording artist st. vincent. the series of short videos that resulted from the road have received international critical praise for the quality of the work and for the original spin on viral videos. the episodes have also been greatly admired by fans who get an intimate look into the touring world.


alan has also worked with musicians such as the fray, kill hannah, pelican, office, super furry animals, and mannequin men. he is currently working on his personal project, the artist series, which aims to explore the creative process through interviews with contemporary fine artists working in their studios.
